The Research Room is unlocked during the introductory section of Mitton University; it is a facility room used by doctors with Research Qualifications to obtain new capabilities and resources for the hospital or Foundation. Projects that can be run include developing new machine-based rooms, and upgrades for them, obtaining more advanced levels of Research Qualifications, and simply generating cash or Kudosh.

Research is used to gain resources and capabilities for the hospital or Foundation. The most important projects are those that unlock new Rooms: more capable Diagnosis rooms to more efficiently handle new, more difficult illnesses, and new Treatment rooms to cure them. Each of these rooms comes with a machine, for which two upgrades each can also be researched. In addition, higher levels of Research Qualifications can be developed, allowing researchers to be made more efficient in Training, and finally, repeatable projects can be undertaken in order to gain cash and Kudosh.
Either by selecting the Research Pod, or by dropping a Research Doctor into an inactive room, a new research project from any of these categories can be selected and begun, for a nominal Green Light Fee. The project is then underway, upon which any doctors permitted to work in the room will enter and contribute their skills to the project. The more doctors (and the higher level their Research Qualifications), the more quickly Research Points will be generated; when the required total is reached, the project will be complete.
Multiple research rooms may be active in one hospital, even to have them all contributing to the same project. Also possible is for a research project to be started in one hospital, and then resumed in another.
Appearance[]
The door to this room is bordered in light grey, with a large darker, textured rectangle inlaid. Inside this are a square and two rectangles in the same light-grey colour. The floor inside is a dark teal with a repeating square pattern of raised circles. Aside from a horizontal white border, the walls are varying shades of teal also; above the border are large very pale rectangular blocks; beneath the border are smaller rectangular blocks in a mid-tone, and below this is a dark-coloured skirting board.

As the player progresses through the introductory section of Mitton University, they will be presented with the required challenge to unlock this room. The challenge will ask them to achieve the following objectives before being able to build this room.
- Get Hospital Level to 3
- Upgrade a Machine

Research Qualification will be required to run the room, who can be most suitably trained with further Research Qualifications.
The room inspector allows the selection of up to four additional staff members in order to more efficiently generate Research Points.
